Summary
The NZWSDB was established in January 1988 from records held by the National Museum, MAF, DoC, Frank Robson (1984 and private records), gaskin (1968), International Whaling Commission reports (Cawthorn 1978, 1979, 1982) and newspaper archives. The database is administered by the National Museum of New Zealand (Te Papa) for the Department of Conservation.
Purpose:
To keep records of whale, dolphin and porpoise strandings around New Zealand.
Content
Details of standings include species, numbers of individual, location, and other observations such as sex, size, causes of injury, success of rescue attempt etc.
