Research Commons is an open access digital archive promoting the research and scholarly output of researchers at the University of Waikato, New Zealand. Its purpose is to publicise, freely disseminate, and preserve the work of the University of Waikato’s scholars and ensure the research activities of staff and students are well known locally, nationally and internationally. Various types of material are available, including working papers, journal articles, dissertations and theses. The search facility is available at http://researchcommons.waikato.ac.nz/. Faculty, researchers, and students associated with the University of Waikato are invited to deposit digital materials for long-term preservation and world-wide electronic accessibility. The research commons provides a means by which research undertaken by academic staff can be made more easily accessible. It is not envisaged that the Waikato Coastal Database will attempt to duplicate this database, instead providing this reference to it. The commons hosts research from academic staff, such as journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, working papers and reports. Material is available as submitted by authors of the work. Material in Research Commons can best be browsed two ways, by the community, usually a department, institute or centre; or by the individual contributor's last name. Material can also be searched using numerous methods, including author, subject, keyword, title, discipline, date etc. Details of the material is provided following the search, including reference to the published location of work, copyright information and often an electronic version of the publication.
