New Zealand Dotterel Monitoring Data

NZ Dotterel Watch Coromandel is a partnership between Department of Conservation, Newmont Waihi, and Coromandel Peninsula Communities. On the Coromandel Peninsula, intensive management of NZD was first undertaken at Opoutere in 1986/87. This has continued, and been expanded to cover other breeding sites on the Peninsula. Since 1999, the NZ Dotterel Watch Programme has allowed better coordination of protection and monitoring during the breeding season. Focussed on key sites on Coromandel Peninsula

1986 - ongoing

Monitored sites are those beaches where one or more NZ Dotterel pair attempted to breed. Nest location, egg, chick and fledgling details were obtained during the season by the NZD watch Ranger, these sites were included in productivity analysis. Several beaches, some remote were monitored less frequently, and fledgling details were not obtained, these sites were not included in Table 2. Not all nest histories were assumed to be known at all monitored sites. Data is collected annually, over summer months.
